Winter is here. This week we have gotten the first two snowfalls of the season. Early in the week we got about 2 inches and last night we probably got another 2 inches. We also got ICE. I would take a foot of snow over any ice. I was planning on going in to work today to help my coworkers and get some overtime (usually I have Fridays and Saturdays off) because I have Sunday off for my last vacation day. I decided it wasn't worth chiseling off my car and risking the icy conditions. I did tell my boss that if others can't come in due to the weather, I would make my best attempt at coming in. Its about a 20 minute drive and my car isn't the best in the winter so I pray he doesn't call.
We got our High-Res DVD of the engagement photos. We will be printing them off before Christmas and distributing them to those who want them. We will also be starting to make the invitations. We were going to send out Save the Dates but have decided against it. Its just a frivolous expense in my mind. I mean people know when we are getting hitched and although we will have more than enough money for the wedding, I don't want to be one of those brides who thinks she can spend fifty gagillion dollars on her wedding. I would rather spend the money on things Ken and I will remember and look back fondly on. I don't think a postcard that says Save the Date!! is going to be one of those things.
For those of you who don't know, we have blocked rooms at the Doubletree Hotel here in downtown Omaha. Its a great hotel and they gave us a great deal. To reserve your room simply call (402) 346-7600 and ask for the Caldwell/Ross rooms for May 16th, 2009.
Ken and I have been doing well. We are looking forward to having some time off for the holiday season. I have from Christmas Eve until Jan 4th off. I will be going in the week after Christmas for a few hours a day to pick up some serious overtime. We get paid our regular salary even if we don't work at all and if we do come in we get paid double time on top of our regular pay! That makes it triple time!
Our plans for the holiday season are on Christmas Eve we will be with Ken's family, we will leave Christmas morning to go to my Grandma Jo's Christmas and we will be staying in LPC until Sunday the 28th. Nate will be coming back to Omaha with us until January 3rd! I am so excited about that! Ken has the whole next week off because he has some vacation time that he will carry over to next year.
Well, I think I am gonna head back to bed for awhile. I hope everyone has a joyous Christmas and a wonderful New Year. Be safe and Happy Holidays!

Wow, it has been a long time since my last blog. That is mostly due to nothing new happening :) Ken and I did purchase a truck. It is just a little white S10. Perfect for our needs. Work is going well, I can't believe I only have 5 months left. I am very excited to start school! We haven't done much for the wedding for awhile. I will be starting on invites and decor soon. I am also going to be visiting florist after the holiday season. I am almost entirely done Christmas shopping. It is so nice! The gifts are even wrapped. I will be putting up my Christmas tree on Monday. I have never had my own Christmas tree, so it should be fun. I am a little nervous for what Neeko will do to the tree but she learns quickly so it shouldn't be too bad.
I hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving! Tomorrow we will be having dinner with Ken's family and we will head home on Friday to have Thanksgiving with my family. I love the holidays :)

Election Night
UGH, is anyone else tired of the election?!?! I am. I understand it is important but it has gotten old quickly. I am sure most people agree :)
What a busy week! This past weekend Ken and I went home. It was very nice. I met my new cousin Isaac (who, by the way, is very adorable) and saw my aunts and uncles for the first time since our engagement. We also had some quality time with my parents and brother. Ken and my dad intended to change my muffler but it was too rusted so we had to leave it in Iowa so my dad could take it to work on Monday. They, graciously, let us borrow one of the cars at the dealership and, sadly, I have fallen in love with it. I wouldn't buy it (its a Kia) but I definitely know what I want when we get a new car. Its a small SUV, similar to a Trail Blazer and it is exactly what I want. We won't get a new car until the Mustang is paid off, so it will be about 3 years, but I am looking forward to it :)
We had marriage counseling as soon as we got back on Sunday and then we were back to work on Monday. Last night I made Christmas presents for my family with Amber and we went to Chinese. It was a good time. Tonight I am heading to Melting Pot with Betsy, Shauna and Greer for ladies night (which should be a blast!). Tomorrow night is church and Thursday I am taking one of the students from church out for dinner. Busy, busy, busy!
Friday Ken is getting off early so we can head back home to pick up my car. We don't want to stay the night because Neeko gets motion sickness and it is better to leave her at home for such a long trip, if we can. So needless to say, it will be a long day.
Well, I should go get ready for tonight.

PICTURES!
Our engagement photos are finally posted!! YES! Here is the link... http://www.bradleyjensen.com/pickpic/gallery/splash.php?gallery_id=82
The password is 'ross'. You can order pictures from the link if you would like, I think. :) Ken and I will probably be purchasing the High-Res photos on a CD so we can make our own prints and have them on the computer. Brad signs rights away or whatever the legality of it all is, so we can make as many prints as we want. Its kinda pricey but worth it. So if you do want a print we can probably print them for you too.
We will be using them for wedding stationary (invites, thank you notes, etc) so you will see more of them :) I am so glad Brad will be doing our wedding also. He is so fun and so comfortable to be around. It should be great.
Not much is new here. I am very excited to go home this weekend. We will be stopping in DM to see Krista on Friday. We may even get to see Obama since he will be in town. We don't have a ton planned while we are in town. The main thing is Thanksgiving at the Gleason's. We have to leave by 2:00 at the latest because we have pre-marital counseling that night. I love pre-marital counseling. :)
I have gotten a jump start on Christmas shopping. I am not buying as many gifts as I usually do. Just my parents, brother and Ken. I am going to make Christmas candy for our friends (mostly fudge and toffee).
Time for bed :)

7 MONTHS!!!
Hello All!
I can't believe October is half over! The months seem to be flying by. As I said before, Ken and I have our engagement photos tomorrow. I went to get a pedicure and my nails done last night. It is so hard to type with these acrylics on. They look really nice and the pedicure was amazing. Ken and I are having 3 outfits for our photos which should be posted on Brad's website in about 10 days.
Last night Ken and I went to the movie Fireproof. It is a low budget, Christian film that made it to the big screen. The only professional actor in the film is Kirk Cameron. Our friends urged us to go because it is about saving a marriage. Kirk Cameron plays Caleb, a fire chief who spends more time at work and surfing the net, than with his wife. He shows her little love and in return she gives him little respect. The marriage is at the point of divorce when Caleb's father convinces him to do a 40 day 'Love Dare" to try to save the marriage. Caleb isn't thrilled about it but decides to give it a shot. I won't give away the movie but it definitely can change the way you think and really makes you think about how you treat you significant other. I absolutely recommend it to any married/engaged couple. It was heartwarming, entertaining and well done. Go see it!! :)
Yesterday I found a hotel to block rooms at for our guests. I will be visiting the Doubletree hotel in downtown Omaha on November 7th. After that date you will be able to call and reserve your room, if everything goes well. I chose this hotel because it is close to Sokol and easy to go back and forth from. It is a very nice hotel and they gave me comparable rates to other hotels that are not nearly as nice. They will be charging $109.00/night. Here is a link... http://doubletree1.hilton.com/en_US/dt/hotel/OMAH-DT-Doubletree-Hotel-Executive-Meeting-Center-Omaha-Downtown-Nebraska/index.do
Ken and I will be visiting Iowa in two weeks. We will be leaving Friday, October 31st and will be staying until Sunday, November 2nd. My Grandma Jo will be having Thanksgiving. I haven't seen my family members since CHRISTMAS of last year. It will be so wonderful to see them all and meet Baby Isaac! I recieved his birth announcement a few days ago and he is so cute! :) I can't wait!
I hope everyone has a great weekend. Go see Fireproof if you don't have other plans. I am sure you will like it!

Weekend fun
Happy Monday!! :) I have to work Sunday-Friday this week because my coworker is on vacation. Six day weeks are no fun.
This past weekend was so great! Friday I took Ken to get his windows retinted, as they scratched because they man wouldn't listen to me. I told him that the '06 Mustangs don't have a frame around the window and I was told to have them put a moleskin on to prevent scratching. The man told me it was very rare for it to scratch so he wasn't going to do it. Well, it scratched and he had to redo it. For free.
When I was taking Ken to the tint shop his friend called and invited us to the National Safety Council's annual Soiree. I was hesitant because we had to meet with our pastor Bo and our marriage mentors Regina and Dennis at 5 and the soiree was at 6:30. After much persuasion from Ken I agreed.
Our meeting with Regina, Dennis and Bo went great (it was so nice to see Bo)! We decided to meet with them every other Sunday at their house for dinner. We feel so blessed to have them in our lives!
We got to the soiree (which was extremely formal, I love getting all dolled up) and found there to be an open, unlimited bar (yay for wine!) and our meal was $150/plate! It was free for us though, because Ryan's company sponsored our table. The food was soo great and the entertainment was Eddie Money. I hadn't ever heard of him (my dad was appalled to hear that) but it was so fun dancing to 80's tunes I hadn't heard before and just having a good time!
Saturday was a boring day. Ken's friend Marc was in town so he went to see him. I took Neeko to the dog park with my friend Janice and her dog Howie. They had so much fun. The dog park is Neeko's favorite place to go! After, we met Ken at my place to watch the Husker game. I fell asleep before it ended but I heard I didn't miss much.
I worked Sunday (boo!) and then Ken and I went to Regina and Dennis' house. They made us a very nice dinner and we got going on our marriage counseling/mentoring. Ken and I are already going through a book together and we will start another one with them in two weeks. I ordered them on Amazon. The book is simply titled Preparing for Marriage. Marriage counseling or mentoring is so important. It makes couples talk about things that either they wouldn't care to talk about or simply gives them a different perspective on topics they have already discussed. People take marriage too lightly these days and we definitely want to prepare ourselves for a lifelong commitment. I don't know how couples could skip pre-marital counseling. Plus, we will make a lifelong connection with our mentors!! :)
Grandma and Nate come on Tuesday and I can't wait!!!!
Anyways, this entry is probably full of typos but I must get back to work!

Today I am going to David's Bridal to pick up my wedding gown and look at BM dresses. I had a dream last night that I wasn't able to get my wedding dress today and our wedding for some reason had to be pushed up to October 1st. David's sent my dress back and we couldn't afford another one so I was in such a panic. I was trying to tell people our wedding isn't until May 16, 2009 but they kept insisting that all of our contracts said October. It was so weird!
I am also going to get my car registered and plated in NE. So sad! :) Legally I should have done it about 16 months ago but I wanted to get the full use out of my parent's insurance. Now I am on Ken's insurance.
Other than that, today I will take Neeko to the dog park (which she loves), finish the cleaning I started yesterday and probably go grocery shopping. What fun!
On a happy note. I received an email from my former coworker I had in college and she informed me that the professor that made my life quite difficult, along with most other students, was resigning! I could hear the sigh of hundreds of BVU Biology majors or future BVU students from all over the country as I read it. He was such a jerk! I just wish all the students in MN where he is moving to all the luck in the world. My advice would be to kiss his butt and become one of his favorites. :)
Alright I think that is quite enough for right now. I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Good News!!!
Yesterday my mom called me and told me my Aunt Kathy had her baby!!! I couldn't be more excited for her! I called her yesterday afternoon and both Kathy and her husband Stephen sounded elated! Both baby and mommy are doing great! Isaac Stephen Zander was born by C-Section on September 24th around 10:oo am. They said he is over 9 lbs and 21 inches long. Srephen said the baby has more hair than he does! YAY!!!!!! :-D

Bargain Shopper
I don't have much time but I wanted to blog about the bargains I found last Friday. Hobby Lobby was having a wonderful sale on just about everything. I got all of our ribbon, materials to make the invitations, rose petals, bubbles, dinner plates, cake plates, cups, and candles for only $250!! I also met a lady who does flowers out of her home. :-D
It was a very successful day and now all we need for decorations are a few more vases! I love bargain shopping!
Only about 240 days until I marry my best friend!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!
My wedding gown came in yesterday!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I haven't had time to pick it up but hopefully tomorrow or Friday I will get it. The only alterations I need is the bustle if I wear heels so I will probably just have them do that and then I can take it home until the wedding. I am keeping it with Ken's mother so he doesn't see it and so my dog (who can be pretty mischievous) doesn't get in to it.
A new friend I met at the camp Ken and I volunteer at for church named Thea offered to *give* us all of her wedding decorations. Her colors were red and white too (!!!!!!!!) so everything should match perfectly for what I have in mind. I haven't purchased any decor (ie vases, candles etc) so I will definitely be able to work her stuff in. What a money saving gift! We will definitely owe her (free babysitting, dinner and a movie :) ) I will probably going to pick it up this week. YES!
I must get back to work. I loooove Ken :)

Do you ever wonder what the purpose of your current situation is and whether or not you are meant to stay in the state that you are (even if you don't like it)?
I got my mid-year review yesterday and it only increased my dislike for my job. My boss knows I am leaving and only said things that, not only aren't true, but he knew they would get under my skin. Such as, I need to be retrained on stocking supplies. This comment stemmed from ONE incident where I did not fill the dog food barrel for my coworker. I don't work Fridays (because I work Sundays) and I do this to help the Friday workers (even though it only takes about 30 seconds). I was busy doing lab work and had a meeting that day so I simply forgot. My coworker knew this and could have done it himself but he didn't and he went to our boss. I apologized and it hasn't happened again. He also stated that I should come in on Fridays to help out, which he told me previously to only do if everyone else is swamped.. they aren't swamped.
Sooo...I am currently in the should I stay or should I go situation. I feel as if I am wasting my time in a position (AKA job) that I hate with people I couldn't care less for. I work Sundays and can't enjoy the ministry I love because I can't attend most of the functions. My coworkers are rude, obnoxious and downright unprofessional. My boss is a very immature jokester who nobody takes seriously and I feel trapped in this position until April. On the flip side, however, I feel very ungrateful. Ungrateful because I have a job that pays decent, gets me what I want and need and I complain constantly about it. Ungrateful because I am marrying an amazing man, who loves me for who I am and treats me like I am his entire world yet I sometimes do not let myself enjoy his love because I am focused on how much I hate my job. Ungrateful because I am very blessed but sometimes, I can only look at the things that aren't going well.
I am not trapped in this position as I stated before. I could leave this job and start another only to quit in May to go back to school. I could quit this job and flip burgers or run a cash register. The only thing is, deep down I like the perks of my job. I like being off by 3:30 almost everyday. I like having almost 2 weeks off at Christmas time off (with only having to feed the animals). I like working with my good friend, Amber, who works for the QC department.
Most of the time, though, it feels like the cons outweigh the pros. I am leaving in April, which is only 8 months away and I know I need to pray for patience and perseverance. Eight months means only 30 more Sundays and in the grand scheme of things is a short period of time.
I really needed to put this down and hopefully with a little prayer and a little love from my friends I will stop having such a negative attitude and will be more able to enjoy the gifts I have so graciously been given.

I Found the Perfect Wedding Dress!
I can't believe I have not had time to post my wonderful news! When my family came to visit my mom and I found the most beautiful wedding gown!
I had looked at many dresses online and of course, tried on my favorite first. I liked it but my mom thought there was something missing. As soon as I tried the second dress on I knew it was The Dress! It is so stunning. When I walked out my mom's jaw dropped and all she said was that's it. That is your wedding dress. It was so fun trying on veils with the dress. To be absolutely sure though I tried on 5 more gowns but just kept coming back to the second dress.
I can't post pictures because Ken looks at this and he is the one person who cannot see my dress. I can't wait to see his face when I am walking down the aisle.
I planned to wear ballet slippers but my dress did not need any alterations (other than the bustle) if I wore heels which was very surprising so I opted to go for the heels. I wear them all the time and Ken is so much taller than me that I really had no objections to heels.
Brad is taking our engagement photos on October 18th. I am very excited. We will have a dressy outfit, a casual (sweater and jeans) outfit and a fun outfit. We are both Dallas Cowboys fans (along with most of the people in our immediate families) so we are going to do some fun shots in some Cowboys gear. It will be cute.
We also got Ken's wedding band last week. It is titanium or tungsten I forget which one. A company here in Omaha was having a liquidation sale and we got a VERY good deal on it. It is beautiful and compliments my ring very well.
As summer is over life is getting very busy. Between work, Mary Kay and church it seems we don't have any extra time. Not to mention wedding planning. It makes life interesting though and from what I hear life never slows down. :)
Neeko is learning to do her commands now with only hand signals. She is so smart! She can sit, stay, lay down, rollover, shake, high five, bow and a few more. She knows how to sit and lay down with just the hand signals. I am working on all of them though.\
If you didn't know my brother is getting to be an EXCELLENT motocross racer. He has now finished in first place twice this season and will finish second overall for the season. Way to go, Nate!! I am so proud of him. I wish I could have attended more of his races this year but with working Sundays I haven't been able to. Next summer should be much better.
Friday I am going on a campus tour of the College of Saint Mary here in Omaha. I want to get my masters in teaching and their school has an excellent program. Ken and I are still talking about my options and hopefully we will make a decision as to which school to attend soon.
I hope everyone is doing well. I hope to see you all soon!

Labor Day Weekend
Labor Day weekend is one of the best weekends of the year, in my opinion. Most people have a three day weekend, college football starts, there is always an abundance of picnics and outdoor activities and this year, my parents are coming to Omaha! My mom, my personal attendant Janice and I are, also, going wedding gown shopping! I am very, very excited!
I have been feeling ill the past 3 days (sore throat/ears, headache, fever) but it has continually gotten better and it got me a FIVE day weekend. Ken went to a friend's house tonight, as they were having a end of summer party. I didn't go because I didn't want to infect others with my virus and I wanted to rest so I am feeling well tomorrow.
Other than going dress shopping we are going to go hiking and grilling out at a state park here in Nebraska and just relaxing. It should be a good time.
Neeko got groomed today for the first time. She looks SO cute!! They put little pink bows in her hair (which she hated) and clipped her pretty short. She looks so skinny though. Right now she has her head buried between my leg and the couch, passed out. Ken thought the bows were ridiculous, of course :) I will post some pictures.
I do ask that people pray for Ken's family. They have had some very difficult hospital visits with a few members of the family and are wore pretty thin. So please pray for them.
Today, after I dropped Neek off at the groomer, I was looking for a parking spot at my complex and a car hit me. Actually I don't know who hit who. I had pulled down the parking lot and realized there were not spots. You can't turn around because it is too tight so I looked behind me and started to back up. Well this guy said he saw me but thought I was stationary so he decided to back up. Needlesstosay we collided. I didn't have any damage because my car is a champ but his brand new Jetta had some chipped paint. We exchanged contact information and he said he had to go. There was very little damage so everything should be fine.
Anyways, I think I am going to bed. Woo hoo going to bed at 9:10 on a Friday. I am awesome.

I love Fridays
I love Fridays. I would love them even more if I had to work like almost every other person that I know. I love them though because it is the one day that if I don't want to do anything, usually, I don't have to. It somehow gives me a little peace about having to work Sundays but it is definitely not worth it. I never get to go to church anymore which really bothers me. My Friday nights are everyone's Thursday nights.
I had my mid-year review at work yesterday. Recently I, along with the rest of my coworkers, got a new boss. Our supervisor has been the person we are supposed to take our problems to the past 6 months or so after our previous boss quit. My supervisor is a goofball and doesn't take a lot of thinks seriously. Plus, he is friends with a lot of my coworkers so I never really trusted him all that much. Anyways, back to the mid-year review. Since she doesn't know us very well, this review was more of an interview. What are your likes/dislikes/strengths/weaknesses/etc? I was very open and candid with her. I felt I could trust her.
When she asked me what my dislikes are, I told her about working Sundays and gave her possible changes, such as rotating weekends like they did before I was hired. She was VERY nice and said she totally understands and will definitely look in to switching the schedules.
When she asked me about my strengths I started with telling her, "Well, I have a BS in Biology." She just looked at me kind of stunned. She said, "Really? Really???" I just sat there like, yeah... She said well no one has told me this. Which didn't really surprise me. See my job is simple, I think a 12 year old could do it. I get bored and I feel like I am wasting my time. She then asked me why I even took the job. I wanted to get my foot in the door to an internationally renowned pharmaceutical company and when they described the position to me it sounded like there would be a lot of lab work (not that I LOVE lab work but it is better than what I do). She then asked if she was able to make it work if I would want to split my days between the animals and labs. I thought sure! But what I actually said was that I had been considering applying for a lab job that had opened. She stopped and said that she had seen that position and that was going to be her next question was whether or not I would want to apply for that. I was stunned because it would put her employees in a tough spot but she said her job is to develop me, not hold me back in a position that I am over-qualified for. I then said even more that I planned on not telling her. I told her that the reason why I wasn't applying is that when we get married I plan on going back to get my Master's in Education so I can teach. So I didn't think it would be fair to start a new position knowing I would be quitting in 9 months. She seemed shocked that I thought that way and applauded me for my integrity saying that most people would be so selfish that they wouldn't think about what was going to happen when they left.
It was a great review and my boss is great. I am glad she cares about the issues I am having and is willing to do what she can to help me develop my skills. I feel a lot better now about my job. Even if I don't like my coworkers, hate my job and despise working Sundays. 9 months isn't that long and I can't wait!

So what am I up to anyway?
I am once again at work, procrastinating and using my time just the way I like to... not working :) I just thought I would update people on what I am doing right now and what my future plans are. I currently work at an animal health organization in the animal care department. We make animal drugs. Basically I help the researchers with the animals and don't use my degree at all. I took this position to get my foot in the door of the pharmaceutical industry but ultimately, I want to go back to school and get my Master's in Education. For the time being, however, I am applying for different positions within this company. I don't necessarily like what I am doing, nor am I to fond of my coworkers. But I am thankful to have a job and hopefully I can be patient enough to find another position. I will be going back to school after the wedding so I don't have to worry about working at the same time. This will lead me to hopefully teaching high school biological courses in the Omaha area.
I just started selling Mary Kay. I thought it would be something I could do on the side while I am in school. Ken didn't want me to work at all (while I am in school) and he makes more than enough for both of us but I have always worked and I think Mary Kay will be fun. So far it has been fun but difficult because I don't know a ton of people in Omaha. We will see :)
Everyone always asks, "So we can expect children from you two in the next couple years, right?" Um... no. We want children but not for *at least* five years. I think it is very important for couples to be in the roles of husband and wife for a substantial amount of time before they try the new roles of Mommy and Daddy. Ken's mother wants to be a grandma soon but five or 6 years isn't so bad, is it?
Well, once again I should get back to it. Today is my Friday so I definitely don't want to have to stay late.
Love, El

9 Months Until I Marry my Best Friend
I decided to start blogging to help keep everyone in the loop with the wedding and our lives in general.
I cannot believe we only have 9 months left until the big day. We are so excited and it seems like the day will never come but I know it will be here before we know it. We have almost everything booked. The wedding is going to be at our church, Dundee Presbyterian. Dundee is very pretty and it has a lot of significance to both Ken and I so I know it will be lovely.
The reception is at Sokol Auditorium downtown. It definitely isn't the traditional reception hall but for some reason it just spoke to me. It is a very old stone building and the actual reception will be in more of a concert hall venue. The architecture is beautiful and the dance floor will be huge (which will be good since the groom is a dancing fool). I hope it will turn out to be as wonderful as I envision.
Our good friend Mr. Tom Cote will be catering for us. I could not be more thrilled! We will be able to have such flexibility with our menu and, oh my, can this man cook! We are very thankful that he is willing to be so gracious and kind to us.
Another good friend, Mr. Brad Jensen (http://www.bradleyjensen.com/) will be our photographer. This man is TALENTED! I saw his pictures over 18 months ago and said this man will take my wedding pictures, and he is! I can't wait for our engagement photos which will be taken in October.
The cake is being made by the lovely Amy Ewing. She is a good friend of Ken's brother Jayson and once again she is so talented! It is so wonderful to be surrounded by such talented people! The cake is going to be gorgeous and of course, taste fantastic!
My parents are coming to town Labor Day weekend and we are going DRESS SHOPPING!! I CANNOT wait! I have an idea of what I like but I am pretty much open to anything. I just want it to be beautiful yet practical. If that makes any sense. Yay for dresses!
My brother is my man of honor. He is my favorite person in the world (besides Ken) and I couldn't think of having anyone else stand beside me. He is such a good kid and it is going to be great! My good friend Melissa English will be a bridesmaid along with my cousin Jayme and good friend Krista. (Krista doesn't know yet... well she might after this blog but *hopefully* she will want to be up there with me.)
My goal is to have our wedding way under budget. I can't believe what people are willing to pay for a wedding. When Ken and I sat down and make the initial budget I wanted to cry. Not because we don't have the money but because I felt sick spending so much. If we can spend that much we should give it to charity! So we will see how that goes.
I should get back to work! Yuck!
